Transition

 Today was a bit different. We started in Capitol Reef and tried to do a little hike that followed a stream to a waterfall. The hike started just behind the Visitor's Center and it appeared to be pretty easy. What we read was that it was a fun hike for kids. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is fun for 61 year olds. The stream from a distance seemed small and easily jumped but as we got down to it (and believe me, it was no river) it was impassable for our frail old bodies. It was probably comical to watch us walking up and down the bank looking for a place to cross. Realizing that it probably wasn't worth getting soaked for what the ranger had said, "yes it's a waterfall if you want to call it that" we decided to head towards our next stop, Cannonville, UT (just so you know how sprawling it is, Google doesn't recognize it).  To get there we travelled on Highway 12 which is a scenic byway and passes through Escalante National Monument. We saw a 6.5 mile hike there called Lower Calf Creek Waterfall and decided to do that.  It was a fairly easy hike, which is good because my to is in bad shape. This morning I decided to tape my nail down because the thought of it getting ripped off while hiking turns my stomach. The only thing really difficult was the amount is really soft sand we had to walk though. The trail meandered along the creek (which was bigger than the one we couldn't cross) for 3.3 miles and ended at a wonderful waterfall (then we retraced our steps back). Along the route were posts number 1-14 and a trail guide told you something about the river, canyon or history at each numbered post. Pictures to follow and be prepared to have some interactivity.

I am writing this in a pizza place in Tropic UT, which is just down the road a stretch from Cannonville. We had to come to do laundry (no facilities in Cannonville). Tomorrow is a big surprise!!!

Started the Day Here  (We kept driving by this and today finally stopped on our way out)

A Little Way In

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Well, next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw;
